| Tie up Collar/Pullback Collar - Horses, Ponies & Miniatures | | Tie up Collar is widely used for Tie up training of the young horse, pony and miniature, they are also used for tethering or retraining of older horses. The purpose of this guide is to assist you to be able to measure and fit a horse tie up collar correctly. We have a large range of standard sizes but there are some horses or ponies that may not suit any of these measurements in which case we will Custom Make them to the size required (at no extra cost). | | | | Top of Page | | How to Measure the Tie Up Collar Neck and tie up collar measurements are different! Measurement needs to be taken at the top of the neck, where the Tie up Collar will sit, a firm but not too tight measurement, you can measure with anything you like that doesn't frighten your horses, i.e you can use a lead rope or hayband and then measure from that. If you are not sure of the Tie up Collar size for your horse/pony and need to measure.... please let us know what the neck measurement is in cm's or inches. | | | | Top of Page | | Setting up the Collars The lead is to be fed through the halter and clips onto the tie up collar, it is important that the lead is fed through like this, it not only keeps the lead in place but also works with the halter in keeping the head down. Collars should not be loose or slip down your horses neck The aim of the tie up collar is to spread the pressure over the poll area. | Thank you Lucy for providing the photo's of your beautiful horse Elly using one of our tie up collars, a very good example of setting up the collar correctly. | | | Top of Page | | TRAINING: Generally when training your horses or pony to tie up it is best to do as much training as you possibly can when they are young. Retraining an older horse can be rewarding but if you have a stubborn/difficult or frightened horse it is much better to leave them to the experts. I have found good training takes time and best done at home, there is nothing worse then getting to a competition and trying something new which ends up ruining the day for you and your horse. Just remember, in the end it is what you think will work for you and your horse. We are all so different with our training methods and of course horses have varied personalities too, sometimes we just have to settle for a happy medium while we work on that 'perfect horse' we hope to have. If you have any concerns or problems please do not hesitate to email us, we are happy to help you if we can. Saddle Tramps Horse Gear will not be directly liable for any loss, damage or misuse.
